Wind and Current Conditions

Time predictions on the Regatta and Course Analysis page are computed from wind (and optionally current) at a specific time. You can either pull that from the weather forecast or enter it yourself.

Forecast vs. manual

Two rows sit above the boat rating tabs:

  • Conditions As Of... -- a date/time picker. Enter any time within the available forecast window and the app pulls wind (and current, if enabled) from the forecast for that moment.
  • Default TWD / TWS -- a direction (true or magnetic, selectable) and wind speed you enter by hand.

Whichever row is active is highlighted; the app switches automatically to Manual if the time you enter in "Conditions As Of..." falls outside the forecast's available range, since there's no forecast data to use at that point. You can also switch manually.

Water current

Whether tidal/water current factors into predicted times is controlled by the Use Water Current setting on the regatta's Edit Regatta Details page, with three options:

  • Inherit from Organization (default) -- uses your organization's own current setting.
  • On / Off -- overrides it for this regatta only.

Turning current off for a regatta also hides the current-arrows toggle and the "Net" wind display option on that regatta's inset chart.

Reading the results

While predictions are recalculating -- after changing boats, conditions, or divisions -- affected time cells grey out briefly until the new numbers arrive. Hover over any time to see a tooltip with the average wind speed and direction used for that boat's course (for example, "Avg 5.8kt @ 330T"); the same average appears for a division's Div Avg column when one is showing. Click any time value to open a full boat report for that boat and course, or click a Div Avg time to open a combined report for the whole division.
